ask your GP to test your thyroxin/thyroid levels- whenever I notice my husband's hair is getting extra thin he gets his levels checked and so far each time they have increased his dose.

Lois's advice is spot on. There has also been a recent thread on this topic here:

Low thyroid levels can be the cause of hair loss and remember always that thyroid tests used by the NHS are notoriously unreliable. Information about private tests can be found on the Thyroid UK community on this site, or on their main website thryoiduk.org

So sorry to hear that, hope you find a way to stop the loss.

Agree with the comments above. I'd add to make sure your diet is completely clean of gluten & avoid anything else which may hamper your intestinal absorption like gluten free oats. Consider your overall diet and make sure it is high in iron & zinc, and if not consider increasing your iron & zinc intake either through dietary changes or supplements.

I think stimulation of the hair follicles through massage/ more vigorous hair washing could help too, to help the blood supply.... just an idea? Here's a useful link from the US that I found for you.. good luck

I found that I was getting really excessive hair loss too. I now take 200mg of Ferrous Sulphate (Iron) per day and it is much better. It does take around three months to show an improvement but if you stick with it it does help. Also I agree with the above posts.

try taking a supplement of vit B12 and possible D3 you could be low at this time of year on the Vit D since it's colder and darker and with all the damage to your digestive system you may have problems with absorption of certain vits and minerals - i do better on magnesium, B12 and D3 think it helps with my hair shedding. 11 montsh ago i had lots o hair loss but i had just started a gluten free diet and m hair stil goes through some stages dramatic shedding but i've noticed a big improvement and quite often it goes hand in hand with intestinal discomfort and inflammation. you may also need your thyroid checked out.

Good luck.
