had a gluten free beer starter pack from www.gluten-freeshop.co.uk for Christmas. 12 different gf beers and lagers in the pack. I liked 8 out of the 12 - so a good ratio. Ambar and cans of Saxon were the best. Cheapest too!

It is good to see an increase in the Gluten free market however I will leave these well alone...to much gluten in them for me!

Gluten in non gluten beer. Got me for sure. I love my GLUTEN free beer.

In the UK "Gluten Free" means up to 20ppm of gluten so yes Gluten in Gluten free beer!

I have some 'st peters gluten free beer' it says it is gluten free on the label. I would love to know how I am supposed to know whether this product is gluten free or not. Are we to assume that all food labelled as gluten free has gluten in it? If so I would imagine my diet to be very restrictive and dull. I was planning to do a beef and beer casserole tomorrow having been very lucky to receive a sample of gluten free suet in the post today. Perhaps the suet has gluten in as well? I hope my casserole turns out well.............. I haven't had a casserole for 11months it has taken that long to resource the beer and the suet

I've had that beer and didn't react and I'm quite reactive. It's supposed to be made of sorghum, not wheat or barley.

I'm a bit wary of the ones that say de-glutenised wheat, though. I had a very dodgy stomach indeed after some Japanese rice crackers that said "gluten free" in huge letters all over the bag, then turned out to be made of de-glutenised wheat, whatever that may be.

Gluten Free is the term used to state that the end product may contain up to 20ppm per kilo/litre in the EU.
Very Low Gluten is the term used to state that the end product contains up to 100ppm per kilo/litre in the EU.
No allowances are made for any individuals level of sensitivity.

We tried the Saxon beers for the first time this xmas and were very impressed. It's nice to be able to move away from the usual wine/cider.

Yes I love the Saxon (made by Carlsberg) and their Ambar Spanish beer. Glad you found it Lisban! Gluten Free Bob has a great selection.

It,s called Schnitzer Brau and of course is German. Very expensive here at $87.00 Australian for 24 stubbies.

To add my experience, in addition to Against the Grain, Wold Top Brewery also produce Scarborough Fair IPA - love this. Not sold as a GF beer, but has been tested and labelled as low gluten, and I have no reaction to this.

Also, worth looking on Jims Beer Kit website, for anyone interested in having a go at making your own - I've tried 3 different recipes (by Duncan Incapable), with some excellent results - a couple of beers and a liquorice stout. You may question the ingredients (tea, treacle, prune juice, and in the case of the stout, liquorice imps), but don't knock it until you've tried it.... Give it a go, you never know...
